Gospell.org (www.gospell.org) is an online, community-sourced songbook containing thousands of Christian songs with lyrics, music (MP3), images and sheet music (PDF).
Started on December 25th, 2014 – after receiving an initial capital contribution of INR 15,00,000 from HNIs in Chennai, India, the site and its community across Facebook and Twitter today reach over 50,000 people a month.
The site was founded by Pradeep Rajadas, an avid musician and technologist on the premise that several Christian songs and hymns were in danger of being lost forever; and that there needed to be a platform for Christian music lovers and artists alike to upload and share their music. Pradeep guides the St. Teresa’s Noon Church Choir in music every Sunday, in Chennai, India.
Gospell allows its users to upload their music to the site and share it with friends across the mobile, social web.
As of March 2016, the site has over 60,000 songs and has added support for downloading lyrics, Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages, and Facebook’s Instant articles.
The search experience on the site is powered by Solr, an enterprise class search engine.
Currently on an ad-supported business model, Gospell is in the process of unveiling Donor accounts at 1$ a month for ad-free browing of its website.
Cross-platform mobile apps on Android, iOS and Windows Phone are to be launched by Easter 2016.
